Grammar note: weather sentences
- The subject of weather sentences is usually هوا (havâ): هوا سرد است (havâ sard ast), spoken هوا سرده (havâ sarde), "it's cold".
- For how you feel, use the adjective with a personal ending: سردم است (sardam ast), spoken سردمه (sardame), "I'm cold". Do not say من سرد هستم, which describes your personality: "I'm a cold person".
- Rain and snow "come" in speech: بارون میاد (bârun miyâd), "it's raining". In writing they "fall": باران می‌بارد (bârân mibârad). Wind "blows": باد می‌وزد (bâd mivazad).
- بارون (bârun) is the spoken pronunciation of باران (bârân), like نون for نان.
Culture note
The Persian New Year, Nowruz, begins at the spring equinox, so بهار (bahâr) is also the season of new beginnings. Temperatures in Iran are given in degrees Celsius.
