Grammar note: verbs for wearing
پوشیدن (pushidan) is used for clothes. Accessories usually take other verbs, and learners often get these wrong:
- عینک زدن (eynak zadan): to wear glasses; کراوات زدن (kerâvât zadan): to wear a tie
- ساعت بستن (sâ'at bastan): to put on a watch; کمربند بستن (kamarband bastan): to wear a belt
- انگشتر دست کردن (angoshtar dast kardan): to put on a ring; دستکش دست کردن (dastkesh dast kardan): to put on gloves
- کلاه سر گذاشتن (kolâh sar gozâshtan): to put on a hat; روسری سر کردن (rusari sar kardan): to put on a headscarf
Culture note
In Iran gold jewelry is priced mainly by weight. The buyer pays the price of the gold plus a making charge called اجرت (ojrat). Gold is also a common gift at weddings and births.
