Type in Persian (Farsi) online with this free keyboard: click the on-screen keys, or type on your normal keyboard and each key is turned into the matching Persian letter of the standard ISIRI 9147 layout. Then copy the text into an email, chat or document.
Tip: hover over a key to see the letter’s name. Shift+Space types the half-space (ZWNJ).
How the Persian keyboard works
Persian is written from right to left with 32 letters, and most letters join to the next one. You do not need to choose letter shapes: type the basic letter and your device picks the right form at the start, middle or end of a word. For example, typing f h v gives بار (bâr, “load”).
The layout used here is the national standard (ISIRI 9147). A few keys are worth learning first:
| Key | Persian | Letter name |
|---|---|---|
| h | ا | alef |
| Shift+h | آ | alef with madde (â) |
| d | ی | ye |
| ; (semicolon) | ک | kâf |
| ‘ (quote) | گ | gâf |
| m | پ | pe |
| ] (right bracket) | چ | che |
| Shift+c | ژ | zhe |
| , (comma) | و | vâv |
| Shift+Space | half-space | ZWNJ |
The half-space (ZWNJ) matters in correct Persian spelling. It separates parts of a word that should not join, such as the prefix می in میخواهم (mikhâham, “I want”) or the plural ending in کتابها (ketâbhâ, “books”). If you are still learning the letters, start with our Persian alphabet guide.

FAQ
Which Persian keyboard layout does this use?
It uses the standard Persian layout, ISIRI 9147, which Windows lists as "Persian (Standard)". If you learn it here, you can switch your computer to the same layout later and your fingers will already know where the letters are.
How do I type the half-space (ZWNJ)?
Press Shift+Space on your keyboard or tap the ZWNJ button. The half-space keeps letters apart without adding a full space, as in میروم (miravam) and کتابها (ketâbhâ).
How do I type آ, ژ and ء?
Hold Shift: Shift+H gives آ, Shift+C gives ژ and Shift+M gives ء. You can also press the Shift button on the on-screen keyboard and tap the letter.
Does it type the Persian ی and ک or the Arabic forms?
It types the Persian letters ی (U+06CC) and ک (U+06A9). These are the forms Persian readers, spell-checkers and search engines expect, so your text will search and display correctly.
Can I use it on a phone?
Yes. Tap the on-screen keys to type. The QWERTY remapping only matters on a computer with a physical keyboard; on a phone you can also add a Persian keyboard in your phone settings.
