Please note: words that are not in the dictionary are converted automatically and the result is only approximate. Persian does not normally write short vowels, and some sounds have more than one letter, so always check important text with a native speaker.

How Finglish to Persian conversion works

The converter first looks up each word in a dictionary of about 500 high-frequency words and everyday chat spellings, for example salam → سلام, merci → مرسی, khoobi → خوبی, mikham → می‌خوام and nemidoonam → نمی‌دونم. If a word is not found, it uses these spelling rules:

You typePersianExample
kh, gh, sh, ch, zhخ ق ش چ ژdokhtar → دختر
aa or âا (آ at the start)âzâd → آزاد
i or eeی (ای at the start)shirin → شیرین
u or ooو (او at the start)kooche → کوچه
a, e, o at the startاostad → استاد
-e at the endهnane → ننه
short a, e, o in the middlenot writtendars → درس
mi- / nemi- before a verbمی‌ / نمی‌ with a half-spacemiravam → می‌روم

Because short vowels are not written, the rules work best when you write long vowels clearly (aa, ee/i, oo/u). To learn which letter to use for each sound, see the Persian alphabet guide. If you want to type Persian directly instead, use the Persian keyboard.

FAQ

What is Finglish?

Finglish (also called Pinglish or Penglish) is Persian written with Latin letters, for example "salam, chetori?" for سلام، چطوری؟. Many Iranians use it in text messages when a Persian keyboard is not available.

How accurate is the conversion?

Words in the built-in dictionary of about 500 common words are converted exactly. Other words are spelled by rules and are only approximate, because Persian usually does not write the short vowels a, e and o, and several Persian letters share one sound (s can be س, ص or ث; z can be ز, ذ, ض or ظ; t can be ت or ط; h can be ه or ح; gh can be ق or غ).

How should I type the long "a" sound?

Use "aa" or "â" for the long a, as in "salaam" or "salâm". Common spellings such as "salam", "khoob" and "khub" are also recognized for dictionary words.

Can it convert Persian script to Finglish?

Yes. Choose "Persian → Finglish". Dictionary words get a full transliteration such as khâne for خانه. Unknown words are spelled letter by letter, so short vowels may be missing. Tick "Simple letters" to write a instead of â.

Why are some words underlined?

An underlined word was not in the dictionary, so it was converted by rules. Check it with a dictionary or a native speaker before you use it.
