Émile Zola: The Inspiring Story of a Genius in Farsi and English tells of a boy who lost his father at seven, struggled at school in Aix-en-Provence and found a close friend in the future painter Paul Cézanne. Children follow him to Paris, where he works in publishing by day, writes by candlelight at night, and grows into a writer for ordinary people. English and Persian. 79-page PDF.
Émile’s father dies when he is seven, and the family’s life in sunny Aix-en-Provence becomes hard. Émile does not always do well at school, but he reads constantly, and under an oak tree he meets Paul Cézanne, a boy with messy hair and a sketchbook. Together they explore an abandoned mill: Émile imagines ghosts and writes a story, Paul draws the crumbling walls.
In Paris, Émile works for a publisher, writes every night at a small desk, and fills his stories with shopkeepers, workers and families. Fact pages cover his early Romantic style, the serial novel Les Mystères de Marseille (1867) and the long Rougon-Macquart series about how hard life could be and why people must care for one another.
Chapters such as “A Boy in Paris” alternate with one-page facts about his first books.
Losing his father, school troubles, the countryside, and the friendship with Cézanne that helped both boys create.
Tiring days, a writing competition, a job among books and advertisements, and writing by candle after work.
Early dreamy writing, a novel printed in parts, and the Rougon-Macquart series about people of every kind.
That poor grades do not decide a future, and that friends with different talents can help each other grow.
