Persian for Busy Travelers is a phrasebook for tourists and business visitors, arranged in 15 sections from Basics Words and Phrases, Time and Numbers to Traveling, Hotel, Restaurant, Foods / Drinks, Shopping, Sightseeing, Healthcare and Emergencies. Each line gives the English, a pronunciation in Roman letters and the Persian script, in everyday spoken Iranian Persian. A pronunciation guide and an alphabet table come first. 80-page PDF by Reza Nazari.
At a hotel desk or a restaurant table you need the right sentence in seconds, not a grammar lesson. Persian for Busy Travelers is organized by situation so you can turn straight to it: 15 sections that follow a trip, from the flight and the hotel to transport, meals, shopping, sightseeing and health problems.
Each section is a table of English, pronunciation and Persian. The restaurant pages, for example, include رستوران گیاهخواری این حوالی هست؟ (resturân-e giyâhkhâri in havâli hast?, is there a vegetarian restaurant around here?), and the shopping pages list words for electronics and jewelry.
Each section is a few pages long, so the phrase you need is never far away.
Greetings, introductions, apologies such as تقصیر منه (taghsir-e mane, that’s my fault), signs like ورود (vorud, entrance) and خروج (khoruj, exit), and asking for a bank or a pharmacy.
Clock times, a.m. and p.m., noon and midnight, days of the week, seasons and numbers.
A Traveling section, phrases for the flight, and six pages of hotel phrases.
Subway and bus, local and international calls, country and area codes, internet access and e-mail.
Finding a good, cheap, vegetarian or Iranian restaurant, ordering and paying, and eight pages of foods and drinks.
Clothes, electronics and jewelry, tours, museums and galleries, then healthcare and emergency phrases.
Questions and requests for eating out, as printed in the book:
