Though in seeking you I keep pace with the north wind, I have not come near even the dust of your graceful cypress figure.

omid dar shab-e zolfat be ruz-e omr nabastam / tama' be dowr-e dahânat ze kâm-e del bebridam
In the night of your curls I set no hope on the days of my life; at the rim of your mouth I cut off all expectation of my heart's desire.

cho ghonche bar saram az ku-ye u gozasht nasimi / ke parde bar del-e khunin be bu-ye u bedaridam
A breeze from the beloved's street passed over me, and like a rosebud, at that scent, I tore open the veil over my bleeding heart.

I swear by the dust of your feet and by the light of Hafez's eyes: without your face, I have seen no light in the lamp of my eyes.

What this fâl tells you

This fal belongs to someone whose heart is set on one face alone. Tradition reads it as a sign of deep, faithful love that has carried many burdens. A breeze carrying news from the one you love may soon open your heart like a rosebud; keep your eyes on that light.

A traditional-style reading for reflection and enjoyment.

How this ghazal is built

radif: none. qâfiye: -idam (keshidam, nashnidam, naresidam, bebridam, kharidam, shenidam, beramidam, bedaridam, nadidam).
