Farsi Complete Course: For Beginners is Book 1 of a three-level course. Chapter 1 teaches the Persian alphabet; chapters 2 to 10 cover greetings, names, family, age, jobs, the restaurant, the hotel, telling the time and the bank. Each chapter mixes dialogues with transliteration, spoken and written forms side by side, grammar, readings and exercises, with answers and a glossary at the back. 175-page PDF by Reza Nazari and Somayeh Nazari.
Beginners need two things at once: the script, and enough spoken Persian to start talking. Book 1 of Farsi Complete Course handles both. Chapter 1 teaches the letters, most common first, and the next nine chapters each take one everyday situation, from introducing yourself to ordering at a restaurant and checking into a hotel.
Chapters are built from short numbered sections: dialogues, speaking-and-writing boxes, grammar, a reading and exercises. The boxes show how speech shortens the written language, for example اسمت (esmet, your name) for اسم تو (esm-e to). The Persian is printed with vowel marks, and the dialogues come with transliteration.
Book 1 is the only level of the course that teaches the alphabet and prints transliteration.
Chapter 1 introduces the 32 letters in order of use, each with its forms, sounds and sample words such as بابا (bâbâ, dad) and نان (nân, bread), plus writing exercises.
Greetings, asking names, family, age, jobs, eating out, the hotel, telling the time and the bank, one situation per chapter.
Boxes pair colloquial forms with written ones, such as چطوره (chetore) for چطور است (chetor ast), so you understand speech and still write correctly.
Questions with آیا (âyâ) and کجاست (kojâst), separate and joined possessive pronouns, باید (bâyad) and شاید (shâyad), the simple past, imperatives, the past continuous and the future.
Short vowelled texts, such as a paragraph about Mrs. Ahmadi, an accountant who takes her children to a restaurant on Thursdays.
Answers to the exercises start on page 135 and a glossary on page 143.
Chapter 3, What’s your name?, uses short dialogues like this one, then explains the spoken forms:
| Persian | Pronunciation | English |
|---|---|---|
| اسم تو چیه؟ | esm-e to chiye? | What is your name? |
| فامیلیت چیه؟ | fâmilit chiye? | What is your last name? |
| اسمت | esmet | your name (spoken form of اسم تو) |
| خودکار کجاست؟ | khodkâr kojâst? | Where is the pen? |
| خودکار کو؟ | khodkâr ku? | Where is the pen? (in speech) |
The exercises then ask you to turn statements such as اسم من سارا است into questions with آیا. More on these shortcuts: spoken vs written Persian.
Ten chapters, then answers and a glossary:
Book 1 (this one) teaches the alphabet and nine everyday situations with vowel marks and transliteration. Book 2 moves to invitations, weather, doctors, sports and transportation in mostly Persian-only text. Book 3 covers airports, emergencies, art and pharmacies with longer readings, proverbs and poems.
No. Chapter 1 teaches the letters before the first dialogue.
Yes. Answers start on page 135, followed by a glossary.
Both series are by Reza Nazari and Somayeh Nazari and use the same chapter format, and some dialogues and readings appear in both, so most learners need only one of the two.
