Mashhad

Mashhad is a big city in northeastern Iran and the capital of Khorasan Razavi province. This city was the capital of Iran during the Afshari era. Mashhad, with a population of nearly four million, is the second most populous city in Iran after Tehran. The area of Mashhad is about 289 square kilometers. The climate of Mashhad is temperate and changeable and has hot and dry summers and cold and wet winters. The maximum temperature in summer is 43 degrees Celsius above zero and the minimum in winter is a few degrees below zero.

The word Mashhad means the place of martyrdom. Imam Reza, the eighth Imam in Twelver Shia Islam, was buried in his mausoleum after being assassinated by Ma’mun Abbasi (ruler at the time). Due to the presence of the shrine of this Imam, the city of Mashhad annually receives millions of travelers from inside and outside the country. Many Iranians travel to Mashhad every year for pilgrimage or vacation.
Mashhad has many historical places and sights. (Chahar Taqi Bazeh Hoor) is one of the oldest buildings in the city, which is estimated to have been built in the third century AD. Due to the presence of the shrine of Imam Reza, the eighth Imam of Iranians, this city annually receives more than 27 million tourists from inside and two million tourists from abroad.

Ferdowsi’s mausoleum

Ferdowsi’s mausoleum is the burial place of Hakim Ghasem Ferdowsi, an Iranian poet and epic poet in the late fourth and early fifth centuries AH, located in Tus, 35 km northwest of Mashhad. Ferdowsi’s mausoleum has been built and destroyed many times. Eventually, from the beginning of the fourteenth century, efforts began to build a worthy tomb. The current area of the mausoleum complex, which includes a garden, pool, and mausoleum, is about 6 hectares. The interior architecture of this building consists of tiling and embossed stone motifs from Shahnameh stories. The stone statue of Hakim Ghasem Ferdowsi, the office buildings, and the mausoleum of Mehdi Akhavan Sales are other parts of the complex.

Shandiz

Shandiz is a city 15 km northwest of Mashhad, which has attracted many tourists due to its towering trees and temperate climate. The flowing rivers in the Shandiz valleys originate from the northern slopes of the Binalood Mountains and create beautiful scenery. Shandiz was introduced in 2005 as a model international tourism region. The world-famous Shishlik food is considered to be one of the local dishes of the Shandiz region.

Torqabeh

The city of Torqabeh is one of the large settlements of old Toos, which is located among the beautiful valleys of the Binalud mountain range. This city has always been considered as one of the most important promenades in the region and now it is one of the most spectacular areas when traveling to Mashhad due to efficient urban services and the existence of large stores. Among the achievements of Torqabeh, we can mention nuts and handicrafts.

Shirbad ski slope

Shirbad peak is the highest peak of the Binalood mountain range and the highest height in Khorasan province and for this reason, it is known as “Khorasan roof”.
On the northeastern slope of the peak, there is a ski slope that leads to Dolatabad Valley. The sport has been around for some time, and skiing is especially important in the winter, as most of the field disciplines are in trouble due to the weather conditions, but this sport satisfies most athletes and enthusiasts this time of year.
